Drinking from a Firehose

Think cramming all your content into an SKO will drive results?
Think again...

I’ve long believed that jamming too much information into training sessions only creates a “firehose” effect, leaving reps overwhelmed and retention minimal.

Here’s the reality: People don’t learn best from crammed sessions. And yet, this approach persists!

After years in sales enablement, I know first-hand that when we break down complex skills into manageable, spaced learning chunks, the transformation is real. Reps engage better, absorb more, and are far more likely to apply what they learn.

Why it matters: People can only retain a limited amount of new information in one sitting. When we overload, the result is often a lack of retention and lower engagement. Instead, breaking learning into digestible, spaced chunks over time can transform the experience and drive real impact.

Studies show over 50% of training value comes from reinforcement long after the training ends.

So what’s the solution? Here’s what I found works:

● Spaced Repetition: Reinforce core concepts in small doses over time to reinforce and solidify learning.

● On-Demand Microlearning: Bite-sized, on-the-go content, like podcast episodes, lets reps engage and absorb learning at their own pace.

This isn’t about checking a box, it’s about building skills that last.
