The eLearning Evolution

eLearning is at a crossroads…

Traditional click-through courses, static scenarios, and multiple-choice assessments are no longer enough.

The rise of AI is changing everything. Companies like Articulate are using AI to generate courses at scale, but the result? More of the same.

And now learners can now use AI to take courses for them! Totally removing engagement and retention.

So, where does this leave us?

It’s time to move beyond passive learning into action-based, output-driven education. AI isn’t just automating content creation; it’s raising the bar for what learning experiences must deliver.

✅ Learning must be meaningful, engaging, and designed for real-world application.
✅ Assessments should measure skills in action, not just memory recall.
✅ Scenarios should be immersive and drive decision-making, not passive consumption.

Ben Betts recently wrote a great piece on the future of eLearning, highlighting that Operator models and AI-driven adaptation will redefine training.

If learners can outsource learning to AI, the value of our content must be in what it enables them to do, not just what it tells them.

The question isn’t whether AI will change eLearning. It already has.

The real question is are we evolving fast enough to keep up?

So what’s your take? How do we make eLearning meaningful in the AI era?
